Young Italian racer Claudia Cretti (Valcar PBM) was seriously injured in a crash duringstage 7 of the Giro Rosa on Thursday. The 21-year-old was airlifted to the hospital in Rummo in critical condition with a traumatic brain injury.
The crash occurred on a descent in Benevento, where riders hit speeds of 90km/h.
Later reports indicated that Cretti's injuries were not life threatening, and that she was in serious-but-guarded condition with a concussion and a fractured shoulder.
Cretti had also fallen during stage 2, but rebounded to finish in the top 10 in the sprint on stage 4.
